ELIMINATE BAD LIGHT USE HABITS

Have you ever been hurrying out of your home and leave two, three, or maybe four lights running all day? By 30 days, the lack of making a two-minute walk through your home can become costly.  For hospitals or hotels, the failure to flip the switch to off is multiplied.

Lighting controls will be your best friend. The options for regulating the usage of your lights are diverse.  When reducing the number of hours of light output, the following could help those of us who tend to ‘forget:’ dimmers, occupancy sensors, timers, twilight sensors, and daylight sensors.

A common control is a dimmer, which curbs the brightness for different times or needs. Occupancy sensors are self-explanatory. The light automatically turns on when motion is detected in the room from entering. After vacating, the light flips to the off position. Setting a length of duration for the light coverage, timers will shut off when appropriate. Twilight sensors detect sunlight at dusk to dawn.  It adjusts the light usage according to the sun setting and rising. Daylight sensors monitor the artificial light illuminating based on the amount of natural light that is present in the area. The light will be dimmed in accordance.

By investing in lighting controls, you can check one bad habit off your list while becoming more energy efficient and pocket some extra cash.  For businesses, the effect of lighting controls can save thousands of dollars a year in expenses.
